10 Izakaya Near Shinagawa’s Konan Exit for Group & Business Dinners

An important guest, a client dinner or a meal to thank colleagues after work: these are ten places on Shinagawa’s Konan side that I’m happy to recommend. I’ve visited every one, so I want to explain the occasion as well as the food—from a private-room dinner to a casual second stop.

I stand behind every one of these ten picks. The order reflects my recommendations. Choose according to your guests’ tastes and the purpose of the evening.

Koen — Shinagawa

Private rooms available
Robata-style grilling, seafood & clay-pot rice
Koen — Shinagawa — food

Choosing the food can be part of welcoming your guests.

Koen is the first name I suggest on Shinagawa’s Konan side. When I want fish, meat and a proper rice dish at the end, the combination of robata-style grilling, seafood and clay-pot rice works well. A business dinner doesn’t need the food to feel formal and intimidating. I want something good in the middle of the table that lets conversation begin naturally.

The choice of sashimi and charcoal-grilled dishes means I don’t have to commit entirely to fish or meat. I value that flexibility. There are chicken dishes grilled without skewers and seasonal clay-pot rice too. Both meat and seafood fans can be comfortable with the choice. I leave room for the rice; thinking about the finish is one of the organizer’s small jobs.

Private rooms make Koen useful for a dinner with guests or a larger company gathering. I prefer to sort out the seating and the meal’s shape beforehand, so I can focus on the conversation on the night. It’s on the ninth floor of the Kyowa Building. Send the restaurant name and floor, rather than simply “Konan Exit,” so nobody gets lost before the meal.

How I build the mealSashimi, then grilled fish or chicken, followed by clay-pot rice. For a larger group, a set course establishes the sequence in advance.

Shinagawa Imaiya Honten

Private rooms available
Hinai chicken yakitori & Akita specialties
Shinagawa Imaiya Honten — restaurant photo

Yakitori can be a proper occasion.

If someone is surprised by the idea of yakitori for a client dinner, Shinagawa Imaiya Honten is a place I’d show them. Hinai chicken from Akita gives the meal a clear focus. That also makes the invitation simple: let’s have a good chicken dinner. Not every hosted meal needs a complicated concept.

Vegetables and small plates add variety between the Hinai chicken skewers. The dakimi skewer combines breast meat and skin, and there’s Akita’s kiritanpo hotpot, made with grilled rice cylinders. I prefer letting conversation and appetite set the pace instead of placing every skewer on the table at once. For a large group, a course avoids prolonged negotiations over numbers.

It’s on the first floor of Shinagawa Grand Passage 2, with private rooms for groups such as four to eight people. I use it when I want a substantial dinner that doesn’t feel stiff. Over charcoal-grilled chicken, discussing favorite cuts is easier than dwelling on job titles. “That was excellent yakitori” is a good way for the evening to end.

How I build the mealHinai chicken skewers with vegetables and small plates between them. For a larger dinner, organize the food and drink through a course.
Private rooms & the right occasionOfficial information lists private rooms for four to eight guests, among other arrangements. Some plans use table-seating rooms privately; choose according to group size.

Meibutsuya — Shinagawa

Private rooms available
Seafood, charcoal-grilled dishes & contemporary Japanese food
A private room at Meibutsuya Shinagawa, with space to settle around the food
A private room at Meibutsuya Shinagawa, with space to settle around the food.

Bring the meat and seafood fans to the same table.

For a company dinner, bringing everyone’s preferences together can be harder than choosing the dishes. Some want fish, others meat, and some simply want a substantial meal. Meibutsuya is one of my options for that situation. Seafood, yakitori and contemporary Japanese dishes let everyone enjoy dinner without first agreeing on one food category.

I like starting with sashimi and adding charcoal-grilled dishes. Courses may include sashimi, yukhoe-style sushi or grilled beef tongue. If I want the meal to feel a little more special, I choose a higher-priced plan because of a specific dish it includes. I want a reason for increasing the budget, not just a bigger number.

Private rooms accommodate both smaller and larger groups. I recommend it for familiar business contacts or a company meal where I want plenty of food choices. It’s on the fifth floor of the Shinagawa Building in Konan 2-chome. If the headcount may change, I check the deadline for changes as well as the menu beforehand.

How I build the mealBuild around sashimi and charcoal-grilled food, adding meat to suit the guests. For a group course, choose the food and unlimited-drink duration together.

Rokkon — Shinagawa

Fully private rooms with doors throughout
Saga beef, sukiyaki & sake
Rokkon — Shinagawa — restaurant photo

More attention for the conversation, less for dividing the food.

When I invite someone for a proper conversation, the seating matters as much as the food. Rokkon has fully private rooms with doors throughout, including options for small groups. I choose it when I want to give each guest time and attention rather than create a loud party atmosphere.

Saga beef is the food focus, with sukiyaki, shabu-shabu and courses where every dish is served in individual portions. I particularly appreciate that last option for a business dinner. Nobody needs to decide who serves first or politely avoid the last piece. We can give our attention to enjoying the food.

Private rooms for two to ten guests are available. In my mind, it suits a purposeful smaller dinner more than a large celebration. It’s on B1F of the Nisshin Building in Konan 1-chome, so I send a map with the reservation details. Once the room and menu are arranged, I can listen properly to my guests.

How I build the mealA Saga-beef course served in individual portions. Choose sukiyaki, shabu-shabu or another arrangement to suit the evening.

Kureya — Shinagawa

Private rooms available
Beef tongue, vegetable rolls & wappa rice
Kureya — Shinagawa — food

Beef tongue takes the lead. Vegetables get a place too.

When I want a meat-focused meal without making every plate heavy, I think of Kureya. Beef tongue and pork-wrapped vegetable skewers make an appealing combination. If I know my guests like meat, suggesting an evening built around tongue is an easy way to begin.

Charcoal-grilled tongue and vegetable rolls give the meal variety. Lettuce and asparagus are among the fillings, while eel rice in a wooden wappa container is an option to finish. I like a sequence that moves from meat through vegetables to rice, rather than making the whole meal equally rich. I want everyone to enjoy the final dishes as much as the first.

Some courses guarantee a private room, which lets me settle the food and seating together. Kureya is on the tenth floor of the Kyowa Building, one floor above Koen, my first pick. Include “Kureya, 10F” in the meeting message. That small detail helps the dinner begin smoothly.

How I build the mealCharcoal-grilled tongue, vegetable rolls, then wappa rice. For an important meal, choose a course that combines the desired food with a guaranteed private room.

Hanakoma — Shinagawa

Private rooms available
Beef tongue, tuna & clay-pot rice
Hanakoma — Shinagawa — restaurant photo

A private room for a group that wants to eat well.

If we’re getting everyone together, I want people to enjoy the meal properly. Hanakoma is one of my choices for a company dinner with hearty appetites. Beef tongue, tuna and clay-pot rice make the food focus clear. I think of it for colleagues finishing work and wanting a satisfying meal, rather than a very restrained dining occasion.

Some plans include all-you-can-eat elements, which can help when appetites differ. I can choose between those and other courses depending on whether it’s a lively gathering or a dinner with business contacts. I value that flexibility. The same restaurant can serve different purposes. I decide what sort of evening I want before asking which offer looks cheapest.

Private rooms cover small groups as well as larger parties. I use it for familiar colleagues or guests with whom I can share food informally. The location is the fourth floor of the Renaissance 2 Building in Konan 2-chome. Giving the restaurant our headcount, budget and seating preferences together saves me from spending the whole evening managing orders.

How I build the mealFor a lively group, consider the beef-tongue or tuna plans. For a business dinner, prioritize the sequence of dishes rather than insist on all-you-can-eat service.
Private rooms & the right occasionPrivate-room plans for small groups and larger parties are listed. Match both the room and course to the occasion.

Warayakiya — Shinagawa

Private rooms for larger groups
Salt-seasoned seared bonito, straw-seared food & Tosa specialties
Warayakiya — Shinagawa — restaurant photo

After the introductions, let the food get people talking.

When I want the meal itself to start the conversation, I think of Warayakiya. Its Tosa theme—the traditional region now known as Kochi—gives the evening a clear identity. A centerpiece of salt-seasoned seared bonito can lead naturally into talk about travel and regional food. It’s useful when I don’t want work to fill every moment.

My first recommendation is the signature bonito tataki, seared and served with salt and condiments. I build around that with chicken and seasonal dishes. Rather than make every plate straw-seared, I add cooler dishes or different flavors for contrast. A strong specialty works best when I let it be the focus instead of ordering every version of it.

The private rooms need to match the group. The rooms with sunken-floor seating are listed for 20–50 people, so I particularly recommend this as a larger company-dinner option. A room existing for a large party doesn’t mean a small group can reserve it on the same terms. Matching the seating to the occasion is part of the recommendation.

How I build the mealSalt-seasoned bonito tataki, then chicken and seasonal Tosa dishes. For a large group, book a suitable room and course together.
Private rooms & the right occasionOfficial private-room information lists sunken-floor seating for 20–50 guests. This is a large-group option, distinct from a small private dining room.

Gin no Rikyu — Shinagawa

Private rooms available
Robata-style grilling, spiny lobster & small sushi rolls
Gin no Rikyu — Shinagawa — restaurant photo

One memorable plate can carry the occasion.

Gin no Rikyu is one of my options for a seafood dinner in Shinagawa. I can center the menu on seafood and grilled dishes, then talk comfortably in a private room. I want good food that lets me focus on the person across the table. That’s why it belongs in these ten picks.

Courses can include grilled Japanese spiny lobster and small sushi rolls designed to accompany drinks. One striking centerpiece alongside seasonal dishes gives the meal a good shape. An important dinner doesn’t require every plate to be extravagant. One dish that prompts a delighted comment can be enough to get things moving.

Private rooms cover smaller dinners and group gatherings, so I can arrange seating and food together. It’s on the third floor of the Shinagawa Ekimae Konan Building. Odako Sakaba, my tenth pick, is on the first floor at the same address. I focus on making the first dinner work well; another drink can be decided by whoever wants to stay afterward.

How I build the mealBuild around seafood and grilled dishes. Consider a course with spiny lobster or small sushi rolls, choosing the centerpiece before the rest of the menu.

Yakichi — Shinagawa

Fully private rooms available
Fresh seafood, blackthroat seaperch & sake
Yakichi — Shinagawa — restaurant photo

A name to remember when the guests love fish.

If I’m taking someone who likes seafood, Yakichi is one of the places I suggest. Fresh fish and blackthroat seaperch give the meal a clear focus. For a hosted dinner, being able to choose around the guest’s tastes matters. I’d rather make the table enjoyable for them than compete over extravagance.

Sashimi, grilled fish and simmered fish keep the meal varied. I like that range. Fried skewers of herring roe on kelp add another texture. There are also courses designed for business dinners that don’t require sharing dishes, so I look at how food is served as well as what it is. The organizer should be able to enjoy the meal too.

Fully private rooms include sunken-floor seating for small groups and larger parties. I recommend it for a calmer seafood dinner or a gathering with senior colleagues. It’s down a lane in Konan 2-chome, so I share a map to the restaurant rather than just the station exit. Confidence in the food is no reason to leave the meeting details vague.

How I build the mealSashimi, then grilled or simmered fish, followed by a favorite small dish. For a formal occasion, consider an individually served course.

Odako Sakaba — Shinagawa

After-dinner option · No private rooms
Takoyaki, casual izakaya food & a street-level entrance
Odako Sakaba — Shinagawa — restaurant photo

Finish the evening with something more relaxed.

My last choice is deliberately different. Odako Sakaba has no private rooms, and I wouldn’t present it as the main venue for a formal client dinner. I included it because the food is very good and I’m a regular. The street-level entrance makes it easy to drop in when the first meal is over and a few people want another drink.

Takoyaki and a few light plates work well for a second stop. Even after a proper dinner, I can still be tempted by a plate of the octopus-filled batter balls. There’s no obligation to keep drinking, of course. I enjoy it with whoever still wants to talk, ordering only as much as we want to eat. It changes the evening into something more casual.

This is the one place here that should not be chosen as a private-room business venue. I recommend it after the main dinner, with colleagues or guests I’ve become comfortable with. The whole evening doesn’t need to stay equally formal. Having a familiar spot like this makes a Shinagawa night more enjoyable.

How I build the mealTakoyaki as a second-stop snack. Order according to the group’s remaining appetite and add more if wanted.
The after-dinner exceptionNo private rooms. A street-level option for casual drinks after the main dinner, rather than formal hosting or confidential conversation.
